How to add a chatbot to your website

Who this is for
This is for you if you want a chat bubble on your site that actually answers questions, not just a contact form. You might run a shop, a service business or a SaaS product. You may not be a developer. If you can paste one line into your site's settings, or install a WordPress plugin, you can do this.
How to do it in CustomerReplies
- Sign in. Go to /sign-in and enter your email. We send a 6-digit code. No password and no card.
- Add your website. In onboarding, type your site's address. The agent reads up to 50 pages straight away.
- Test in the Playground. Ask the questions your customers ask. Correct any wrong answer once.
- Copy the script tag. On the Widget page, copy the script tag. It is one line of HTML.
- Paste it into your site. Paste it before the closing body tag, or into your site builder's custom code setting. On WordPress, download the plugin from the Widget page and paste your agent ID.
- Set hand-off. On the Hand-off page, choose when a person takes over and get alerts on Telegram or email.
Where to paste it
On Shopify, paste the tag into your theme. It works on every Shopify theme. On WordPress or WooCommerce, the plugin is the easiest way.
On other site builders, look for a setting called custom code, footer code or scripts. If you can't edit your site, you can share a link to a full-page chat or use an iframe.
What visitors get
The bubble answers from your sources, with a link to the page it used. Customers can attach photos. In supported browsers they can also speak and listen to answers in the widget.
When the agent can't help, it hands the chat to your team, and you reply from the shared inbox.
Beyond your website
The same agent can answer on WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Messenger, Slack and email. You connect your own account with each provider on the Channels page.
The first 3 months are free. After that you pay only for what you use, at our cost — no markup. Monthly plans are coming soon.
When CustomerReplies is not the right tool
CustomerReplies is not the right tool if you need a Shopify App Store app; there isn't one yet, and you use the script tag instead. It is also not right if you need the chat to answer in languages other than English. If you only want live chat with no AI, a plain live-chat tool may be simpler.
Questions
Do I need a developer?
No. If you can paste one line into your site's settings, or install a WordPress plugin, you can add it.
Does it slow down my site?
It is a single script tag. Test your pages after you add it, as you would with any script.
Does it work on Shopify?
Yes. The script tag works on every Shopify theme.
Can I try it before I add it?
Yes. Test everything in the Playground first. Playground messages don't use your monthly replies.
